The summer skincare dream for many is skin that is tanned and glowing, no sight of the dryness that often appears in colder weather and skin looks alive and rested.

However, for many of us the risk of sunburn, pigmentation, sweat, allergies and even the signs of ageing are a little more like our reality. If this sounds more like your skin reality this summer I have put together my top tips and products that will help you embrace the summer, make slight tweaks to your routine and achieve the dream summer skin. And remember the only safe tan is a fake tan!

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Of course, in the summer time as we are sweating more and we are likely to be exercising more it is super important to restore our hydration levels by drinking more water. Set yourself a hydration
challenge where you aim to drink at least 2 litres of water a day. This helps with your overall health and will be seen in your skin health also.

If your skin is dehydrated you may notice it feeling tight, crepe like, notice more lines and wrinkles or even have breakouts where you normally wouldn’t. The best way to hydrate your skin is to apply a hydrating serum like a hyaluronic acid serum. HA holds up to 1000 times its own weight in water and is perfect to be used for all skin types twice a day under your moisturiser or SPF.

Vichy Mineral 89 Hyaluronic Acid Booster

Our top pick is the Mineral 89 Serum from Vichy, this super hydrating formula is suitable for sensitive skin and is not sticky on the skin, it will also help your skin hold onto water by strengthening its protective barrier.

Switch up the heavy creams

Bioderma Sensibio Mild Cleansing Foaming Gel

Making a small change to your routine like switching from a balm or heavy emollient moisturiser to a gel or lotion formula can help your skin adapt for the summer. The same can be said for cleansers, if you suffer from breakouts or patches of oiliness, it is a good idea to switch to a gentle, non-irritating lightweight gel cleanser in the summertime. We love the Bioderma Sensibio Mild foaming gel, especially if you have a Celtic complexion or are prone to redness, this lightweight formula cleans the skin thoroughly while helping protect against lipid loss or irritation.
