The Importance of Finding Balance this January
*Sponsored Partnership with Meaghers
When it comes to the beginning of a new year, many of us are motivated to make a fresh start, to improve ourselves or our lives, in some way be that in terms of fitness, health, financially or general lifestyle. January is an excellent time to start working toward self- improvement goals and start the new year off as you intend to go on.
However, it’s important to remember this January is not exactly like any we have had before. Many people are struggling in many different ways because of wider impact of Covid 19, this year may have impacted upon your mental or physical health, perhaps you are in a different situation financially or your living situation has changed, maybe you have suffered a loss or extended periods of worry. There are so many of us in that boat and this year should be the year that we are dedicated to being kind to ourselves.
It is possible to find balance in January, to prioritise your health and wellbeing over all else and still achieve your self-improvement goals. Here I have put together a few tips on finding balance this January and caring for yourself this new year.
1. Use your Time Wisely
It can be difficult to keep all the balls in the air all of the time, with responsibilities like work, parenthood, maintaining relationships, staying active and eating healthily just remember to just give yourself the grace to not do everything perfectly all of the time. All any of us can do is our best!
A great way of multitasking to achieve our goals is ‘habit stacking’ a concept coined by James Clear in his book Atomic habits. This is where you incorporate a new habit alongside something that you already do automatically e.g., preparing tomorrows lunch while you wait on tonight’s dinner to cook or listening to a self-improvement audiobook while out on your walk. Look at an anchor activity that you do daily and attach a new positive habit on to that activity, its multitasking at its finest.
Taking a multivitamin is a great way to boost our health and wellbeing while giving you the peace of mind that you have done your best to protect your immune system,
boost your health and energy. The most multi-tasking multivitamin on the market is the revive active multivitamin, with a full blend of 26 active ingredients including Co-Enzyme Q10 which is so great for boosting
energy. Co-enzyme Q10, which is found naturally in your cells and helps your body create energy.
2. Invest in yourself
Balance is all about trying to find equilibrium between all that takes from us and all that we put in. If you have a busy lifestyle full of work, responsibilities and social commitments make sure that you are giving yourself to fill your cup first. In order to do that we must invest time and energy into caring for ourselves. The more you give yourself the more you can give to others. Perhaps to you that looks like a gym membership, a meditation app subscription, a therapist or taking care of your gut health. Our gut health is central to our overall health and wellbeing and poor gut health can have a real debilitating effect on our energy levels, our levels of bloat and our mental health. The best way to care for your gut is to rebalance the good bacteria with the Symprove 12 week programme, investing in Symprove means that your overall health and energy levels will improve and physically and mentally you will feel much more capable of taking on all that life throws at you.
3. Be Consistent
Consistency is key when seeking balance in all areas of life, setting non negotiables for yourself can help ensure you have the space to do all you need to achieve any goals in January. Sleep is one of the main pillars of wellbeing and without a solid sleep routine our mental, physical and emotional health is impacted. Try and set a bedtime routine that ensures you get 7-8 hours of sleep a night, if possible, here are some tips that might help with that routine.
– Avoid all devices for an hour before bed
– Never go to bed hungry or stuffed. A large or heavy meal too close to bedtime can be uncomfortable and keep you awake.
– Spending time outside, a gentle walk or a run can be helpful to tire you out for bedtime.
– Create a restful environment, ensure your bedroom is dark, at a comfortable temperature and as quiet as possible.
– Unwind with meditation, using guided meditation can help relax the body and mind before sleep, Amplify your relaxation with Spacemasks, the heated eyemasks that help relive stress, tension and strain from the eye area. Excellent if you are working on a screen all day.
4. Spend time in nature
Spending time outdoors in nature can help centre us, give us a sense of perspective and also help us get our daily dose of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin that mostly comes from sunlight and helps with bone health, our immune system and our mood. In the winter we typically get less Vitamin D and that has a knock on effect, if you feel like you would like to top up on your vitamin D with a supplement try YourZooki Liposomal Vitamin D3 +K2, it is easily absorbed by the body and is of the highest quality for when daylight hours are shorter.
