Your Skin During Menopause
During menopause, lower levels of estrogen have a big impact on your skin, bringing some noticeable changes. Less estrogen makes our skin more prone to thinning , sagging, and wrinkling. Fortunately, you can relieve some of the skin-related effects of menopause by taking care of your specific skin care needs. The hormone Estrogen plays a large role in our skin, from supporting collagen production, supporting the skin’s elasticity, maintaining moisture levels, and supporting healthy blood vessels. When we start to produce less estrogen during menopause, you may start to see more pronounced lines and wrinkles, increased dryness, increased sensitivity, dullness, and sagging. Some women also experience breakouts and acne.
If you do begin to get breakouts reach out to your pharmacy for some advice on suitable products. Fluctuations in hormones levels in perimenopause and menopause can also exacerbate existing skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis so it is important to keep an eye on any changes in the skin. Also to note If you’ve spent ample time in the sun without sun protection, you’ll likely see the effects starting to show. Age spots and larger areas of darker skin can appear on your face, hands, neck, arms, or chest. Always keep an eye on any unusual changes in the skin and remember wear your SPF 365 days a year.
Some of the following products are very effective at treating menopausal skin.
Skingredients Pre Probiotic Hydrating Cleanser
My ultimate go to cleanser for dry, dehydrated, sensitive skin. This is a creamy, lightweight cleansing lotion that’s suitable for all skins even oily skin. Gentle enough to nurture + balance your skin, while it intensely hydrates and even removes eye makeup. My 5-star product. Use morning and evenings for best results. Perfect for menopausal skin that may have become sensitised and dry.
Seavite comfort cleanser
This cleansing lotion effectively detoxifies the skin and dissolves all traces of make-up, while maintaining the skin’s natural barrier, leaving it feeling perfectly balanced and revitalised. I love this cleanser as it also gently detoxifies and conditions skin, dissolves make-up and impurities. Stimulates cell renewal for a more radiant complexion and leaves skin feeling balanced and refreshed
Vichy Minéral 89 Hyaluronic Acid
Is designed to rehydrate and protect the delicate skin barrier. A hydrating serum enriched with Vichy’s highest concentration of 89% Vichy Thermal Mineralizing Water with Hyaluronic Acid, the gel serum plumps skin and strengthens the skin barrier to protect from the impact of daily aggressors such as pollution. The perfect first step in every skin care routine for up to 24-hour hydration. Hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin.
Kinvara Precious Facial Oil
This facial oil is a beautiful oil for calming the skin as it contains Lavender and Rosemary. It also contains the super ingredient squalene which is great for skin barrier support, suppleness, hydration, and texture improvements. It can be also used as part of your daily skin care regime as the last step in your routine. My favourite part of this oil is that is contains Bakuchiol. Studies have shown that bakuchiol helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles, helps with pigmentation, elasticity, and firmness. It works through the same receptors that retinol uses, which is why many refer to it as a natural retinol alternative.
Neovadiol Redensifying Revitalizing Night Cream
Is a night cream with a cooling effect that compensates peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms at night, powered by Proxylane & Cassia extract with Vichy volcanic water and Hyaluronic Acid. It diminishes dryness, sagginess and density loss with a fresh and cooling sensation.
