A holiday is something that many of us plan for and look forward to for most of the year. We book our annual leave, we choose hotels and plan flights and blow the dust off the suitcase ready for the task of packing. The preparation for holidays can be quite stressful especially if you are travelling with kids. Here we have put together some tips to help you get the most of your holiday and simple things that you can do for yourself to get the best from your rest and relaxation time.

1. Bring a Few Books

Reading is a super way to relax and unwind, its also a great way to use your imagination and transport yourself to another place or to widen your perspective and learn something new as well as being a slow, relaxing pastime. But reading can also be great for your mental wellbeing in that it can help you improve your cognitive function and use of language.  Holidays are a great time to catch up on those books you have been meaning to get around to when not working or expending your energy on other activities. If you are reading while outdoors make sure and wear sunscreen and move positions regularly.

2. Don’t Feel Under Pressure to Do & See it All

Sometimes when we visit somewhere we have never been before we can put unnecessary pressure on ourselves to see all the sites and visit all the museums! Try and make peace with yourself and accept the fact that you’re going to see some things but miss some things too, prioritise your relaxation and focus on your need on any particular day, maybe a few days by the pool is just what you need.

3. Make a Mindful Choice to Unplug

We are so connected to the world technologically with phones, laptops and all manner of devices we are always accessible and those notifications can really go on forever. Give yourself the time and space to connect to yourself on your holidays, disconnect from social media and news apps just like you set your out of office on your email. The stress hormone cortisol is released in our system when we on alert and under pressure, give yourself some time to promote Calmness & Reduce Stress

Ashwagandha is classified as an adaptogen. Adaptogens are a select group of plants that help your body cope with stress. Studies have shown that KSM-66® ashwagandha significantly reduces levels of cortisol – the stress hormone in the system it also will encourage a general feeling of well-being and help with sleep.

4. Take the Stress Out of Travelling

If you are not very organised travelling can be very stressful, from the tickets, departure times and transfers there is a lot to think about. Try and do as much in advance as possible so that you are not starting or ending your holiday with a ultra stressful journey. If you find it hard to shut off and wind down the Ultimate Daily Calm supplement from Solgar can help it is useful for those occasions when you are feeling under pressure or overwhelmed. Rhodiola is valued for its adaptogenic properties and has been used for centuries to help balance mind and body against emotional pressure while B vitamins support nervous system health, psychological wellbeing and energy production.

Give yourself lots of time when travelling and try and book flights that don’t mean you are getting out of bed in the middle of the night!

5. Make the Most of Your Sleep

Many people struggle to sleep when on holidays or may sleep ok but wake up not feeling rested. This can be caused by a number of factors like the alteration of your routine, richer or heavier food or alcohol consumption. The body craves consistency, and when you are on holidays sleeping in a different bed, at a different temperature or with different light and noises you may struggle to get quality sleep. There are a number of things you can do to help.

Create a relaxing environment, ensure the room is dark and as cool as possible, use the Deep Sleep Pillow spray from This works and a Spacemask to ease tension behind the eyes and relax you before sleep.
